Mulayam Singh Yadav was born in 1939 in Saifai village in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh. He started his political career as a member of the Lok Dal party and was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1977.
He later founded the Samajwadi Party which emerged as a key player in state politics. In 1989, he became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh but had to resign after just two years due to allegations of corruption. However, he returned to power in 1993 and served as CM for another five years. During his long political career, Mulayam Singh Yadav was known for his mass appeal and his ability to mobilize support from different sections of society. He will be remembered as one of the most significant politicians from Uttar Pradesh.
He was admitted to a hospital in Lucknow earlier this week after he complained of chest pain. Yadav was one of the founding members of the Samajwadi Party and had served as its president for many years. He was also a member of parliament for several terms. In his long political career, Yadav held important positions in various state and central government ministries. Yadav’s death is a big loss to the Samajwadi Party and Indian politics.
