Chairman Rajya Sabha Holds Meetings with Floor Leaders to Break Deadlock in House

Chairman Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar, took an initiative to break the deadlock in the House by convening two meetings of floor leaders today. The first meeting was held at 11:30 am with the presence of leaders from BJP, YSRCP, BJD, and TDP, while leaders from other parties, including INC, AITC, DMK, and AAP, did not attend the meeting.

During the meeting, Chairman Dhankhar emphasized the importance of running the proceedings of the House in an orderly manner, which is the essence of democracy and the expectation of the people. He also highlighted that the House is meant for debate and discussion in a collaborative manner, and not for confrontation and deadlock.

After the first meeting, Chairman Dhankhar made another appeal to the floor leaders who did not attend the first meeting to revisit their decision and attend the second meeting, which was held at 2:30 pm. The second meeting was attended by leaders from various parties, including Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha, Dr. Harivansh, Shri Sharad Pawar (NCP), Dr. Keshav Rao (TRS), Shri Tiruchi Siva (DMK), and Shri Sasmit Patra (BJD), among others.

During the meetings, the leaders discussed the issues raised by both ruling and opposition parties and attempted to find a way forward to break the logjam in the House. The Chairman scheduled the next meeting for March 23, 2023, at 10:00 am, to continue the discussions and consultations with all floor leaders.

It is essential to note that the functioning of the House is crucial to the functioning of democracy. Therefore, it is the responsibility of all leaders to attend such meetings and work towards finding a way forward. The absence of leaders from several parties during the first meeting was not helpful to the cause of democracy, as indicated by the Chairman.
