India and African nations join forces- During the 1st India-Africa Army Chiefs’ Conclave in Pune, Maharashtra, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh reiterated India’s commitment to partnering with African nations to promote regional security, foster stability, and enhance defense capabilities. The Conclave was attended by Chiefs and representatives of 31 African nations, along with other civil and defense dignitaries.
Shri Rajnath Singh invited African companies to explore Indian defense equipment and technologies to fulfill their security needs, emphasizing India’s commitment to provide support to African partner-countries in all defense-related matters. He also highlighted the importance of building robust state structures that can cater to the needs and aspirations of the people to promote economic growth and social development.
India has been providing training to the Armed Forces of African nations and equipping them with necessary skills to face the security challenges of the 21st century. The Raksha Mantri pointed out that the Joint Exercises between India and African nations provide an excellent opportunity for the Armed Forces to learn from each other and promote interoperability.
Shri Rajnath Singh described capacity building in terms of defense equipment and platforms as another critical aspect of India’s military cooperation with its Africa partners. He invited the African countries to explore Indian defense equipment and technologies to fulfill their security needs, adding that India has emerged as a leading defense exporter in recent years.
The Raksha Mantri highlighted that India and Africa share common goals of eradicating poverty, achieving sustainable development, promoting peace & harmony, and improving the quality of life of the people. This partnership drives the South-South cooperation to build a truly multi-polar world order that is more responsive to the aspirations of developing countries.
The India-Africa Army Chiefs’ Conclave was aimed at strengthening and improving synergy between militaries of India and African nations as part of regional cooperation mechanism. It focused on joint training and defense cooperation amongst the nations to evolve an institutionalized framework to enhance collaboration in the fields of joint military training, execution of peacekeeping operations, besides promoting Indian defense industries. The Conclave is a major landmark in deep-rooted defense ties between India and African nations, enhancing regional cooperation.
