Arvind Kejriwal On AAP’s Performance In Gujarat: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday thanked the people for helping the AAP “break through” the BJP’s fortress in Gujarat. He asserted that the party would win the state next time.
In a message to the AAP’s Gujarat supporters, Kejriwal said while the party won’t get many seats in the state, it will still be considered a national party because of the votes it has.
The Aam Aadmi Party won five seats and got 12.92% of the vote in the Gujarat assembly election, according to the State Election Commission.
“I am thankful to the people of Gujarat for helping us attain the status of a national party. Very few other parties have this type of status, and now we are one them,” Delhi chief minister said.
Recognized as a state party in Delhi, Punjab and Goa, the Aam Aadmi Party had just one more state to go to become nationally recognized. It has now opened its account in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat, which means that it will achieve national status.
In order to qualify as a national party in India, the party must not only be recognised by at least four states, but also win at least two seats and six per cent of the vote share in assembly elections.
“Your AAP is now a national party,” Mr Kejriwal said during a joint press conference with the Congress. “On the basis of votes polled in Gujarat, legally your AAP is now a national party.”
The AAP fielded candidates on all 182 assembly seats in an attempt to breach the BJP stronghold in Gujarat. They conducted a high-decibel campaign at the run-up to the polls.
The party and their national convenor take the message to the masses that they are India’s only strong opposition to the BJP and Prime Minister Modi.
“The people of Gujarat helped AAP make a dent,” he said when asked about the party’s defeat.
“Gujarat is considered to be a BJP stronghold. We received 13% of the votes polled. There are people who have trusted us and voted for us for the first time. This time, we broke through the fortress and next time, with your blessings, we will win it,” he said.
According to Arvind Kejriwal, the leaders of his political party didn’t engage in mudslinging or abusive politics. Instead, they talked about positive things and the work their party has done in Delhi and Punjab.
“We only discussed work done by our representatives in Punjab and Delhi, and how if we get an opportunity to represent people in Gujarat, we will do everything possible to help them succeed. This differentiates us from the other political parties.
No more mudslinging! In the past 75 years, politics has revolved around caste and religion. But we spoke about issues that affect the common man.
The AAP accomplished something amazing in such a short time. What’s really shocking is that people were justifiably shocked to find out, Mr. Kejriwal said.
He said in the message: “People are amazed by this achievement. I have learnt a lot from you and received a lot of love and respect. I am indebted to you.”
Arvind Kejriwal reiterated that he is an honest and I’mandar man who just wants to serve the people of Gujarat. He asked party activists to rest for a few days and then return to their work.
The AAP’s senior leader and Delhi deputy chief minister said this is the first time that politics in education and health can make a mark in the country.
The AAP won 134 seats in the recent Delhi municipal elections. This was a pretty big win, as the BJP only received 104 seats. Now that it’s unified, we have a great opportunity to take back control of the city for the people. They’ve taken so much from us before and, with your help, we can get a fresh start.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh echoed the sentiments of Chief Minister Kejriwal.
Arvind Kejriwal has successfully pulled off an unprecedented victory, leaving the BJP with zero seats in Gujarat.
AAP was established ten years ago, and now it has its government in Delhi.
The AAP’s National Organization will now have the “electoral symbol” in Delhi, indicated on Twitter by Rai. The party has been registered in every state of the country and fulfils the criteria to be a national party as set by the Election Commission (EC) under Section 29A of the Representation of People Act, 1951.
“Until now, we have struggled with our party symbol, but after being given the status of a national party, the ‘jhaadu’ (broom) symbol will be reserved for AAP across the whole country.”
“When people of Gujarat locked in the jhaadu symbol for AAP, it was time to wield the broom throughout the nation,” he said.
According to statistics by the election commission, the AAP contested the Lok Sabha and Gujarat Assembly Elections of 2014 and 2017. In most cases, their candidates had fewer votes than the NOTA option available.
During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it stayed away entirely from the state.
Arvind Kejriwal on AAP’s Performance in Gujarat: “We Broke BJP Fortress, Next Time We’ll Win Them”
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal thanked the people for helping the AAP breach the BJP’s fortress in Gujarat, and asserted that his party would take home all of Gujarat state in 2019.
In a recent video, Mr. Kejriwal talked about how the AAP’s small showing in Gujarat has helped it become a national party.
The AAP has won five seats and a 12.92% vote share in the Gujarat assembly elections, as announced by the State Election Commission.
“Without people of Gujarat, we would have never attained the status of a national party. Few parties in India have had this status and now we are one of them,” Delhi Chief Minister said.
In the most recent nationwide election, the AAP was already a state party in Delhi, Punjab, and Goa. Now, they only needed to win a seat in Maharashtra to earn the status of a national party. They opened their account there and were a step closer to attaining that title.
In order to qualify as a national party, a political organization needs to be recognized in at least four different states. It needs to win two seats and get 6% of the votes polled in an assembly election to gain the status of a state party.
“This is not just a victory for AAP. The people of Gujarat have made it a national party. This is the basis on which legally we are now a national party,” Mr Kejriwal added.
The AAP fielding candidates on all 182 seats in an attempt to breach the BJP’s stronghold was only part of its campaign strategy. The AAP conducted a high-decibel campaign in the run-up to the polls.
The party positioned itself and its national convenor Mr. Kejriwal as the only challenger to the BJP and Prime Minister Modi, respectively.
Gujarat is considered to be a stronghold for the BJP and people in the state helped The AAP make a dent in it, he said.
“We are very happy that we breached the fortress and people have believed in us. We know it will not be easy but we will send good MPs to Gujarat,” he said, citing BJP’s ally Shiv Sena as an example.
Arvind Kejriwal also stated that leaders of his party abstained from mud-slinging and abusive politics. Instead, they spoke about positive things, including the work done in Delhi and Punjab.
In the recent elections in Punjab, we only spoke about the work we’ve done in Punjab and Delhi. If we get a chance to do it in Gujarat, we will curb any corruption that may be present.”
“In the last 75 years, politics has revolved around caste, mudslinging and religion. But we spoke about issues that affect the common man,” he said.
According to Mr. Kejriwal, people were shocked to learn that AAP became a national party in such a short amount of time.
This man was very appreciative of what he has achieved, and his words tell it all. I have learned a lot from your lessons and received a lot of love and respect from the many people I’ve helped. I owe you a debt of gratitude.
Arvind Kejriwal reiterated that he and AAP ministers were “imaandari” people and honest, asking party activists to take a break for a few days and then return to work.
Deputy Chief Minister and AAP Senior Leader Manish Sisodia said that this policy was a first in India, meaning politics and education is finally making an impact.
The AAP won 134 seats while the BJP had 104 on Wednesday. The party was separated into Delhi’s three-parts of north, east and south in 2012 and unified this year. Arvind Kejriwal had left Gujarat to campaign for the AAP.
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh shared Mr. Kejriwal’s sentiment.
“In Gujarat, PM Modi and Amit Shah are considered the fortress. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today breached their fortress.”
AAP has been in power for 10 years and Delhiites have formed their government 3 times. With Punjab, it’s now 4.
After achieving the status of a national party, the AAP no longer has to worry about struggling for their party symbol.
“Since the AAP became a national party, and since we obtained the “jhaadu” symbol reservation across the whole country, we no longer need to struggle for that symbol.
“With the jhaadu symbol being locked-in by Gujaratis, it is time to wield a broom throughout the country,” he said.
The AAP has contested the 2014 Lok Sabha and the 2017 state assembly elections in Gujarat, with most of their candidates receiving fewer votes than the NOTA option, according to election data.
Google stayed away from the state during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
