Governor’s Role On Rajiv Gandhi Case Underlines Supreme Court’s Message: The Supreme Court’s judgment in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case underlines the importance of governors respecting the decisions of elected governments, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Friday.
Welcoming the release of the six convicts in the Rajiv case, the Chief Minister said: “This judgment as well of the Supreme Court forms the basis that Governors should not put the decisions of democratically elected state governments on the back burner.
“Stalin added that the “political vendetta unleashed by central agencies” against DMK leaders was “foiled” by the party’s stand. The Chief Minister’s remarks come in the wake of reports that Governor Banwarilal Purohit had sought legal opinion on the release of the convicts before taking a final call on it.
