The Winter Session of Parliament will begin on December 7 and conclude on December 29, announced Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi on Wednesday. Joshi said that the Speaker will take a call on whether the session will be held at the new Parliament building or the old one.
“The Speaker will decide. We are ready for both options,” he said.
The first part will be from December 7 to December 20, while the second part will be from December 21 to December 29. During the session, several important Bills are expected to be taken up for discussion and passage, including the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
The Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on Wednesday that the government is ready to hold the winter session of Parliament in the new Parliament building if it is completed by then or else the session will be held in the existing building.
He said that a decision on this will be taken by the Speaker after taking into view all aspects. Birla was quoted by PTI as saying, “Construction work of the new Parliament building is going on at a fast pace. If it is completed by December, then the winter session can be held there, otherwise it will be held in the old building.” The new Parliament building is being constructed adjacent to the existing one. It is expected to be completed by 2022.
