Mariah Carey is not The Queen Of Christmas: Mariah Carey has tried to trademark the term ‘Queen of Christmas,’ but the US Trademark Trial and Appeal Board rejected her trademark application. The board has strict rules against trademarking phrases or titles. The term ‘Queen of Christmas’ is already owned by Elizabeth Chan, a singer and actress.
The singer attempted to trademark ‘Queen of Christmas’ and several related phrases. She also wanted to sell merchandise bearing the phrase, including Christmas Princess. In April 2017, Carey’s company did not respond to Chan’s opposition. If she had a trademark, she would have the legal right to prevent others from using the term.
Elizabeth Chan has filed court documents to stop Mariah Carey from using the phrase ‘Queen of Christmas’. Chan has been writing Christmas songs for over a decade and claims to be the only full-time songwriter in the business. She has a new album called ‘Queen of Christmas,’ and displays it proudly on her social media pages.
The two artists have yet to respond to the court ruling, so it’s unclear if the lawsuit will be settled in their favor. Chan’s lawyers said that “it is unlikely to impact the future of Mariah Carey’s career. Carey’s reps have declined to comment on the lawsuit, so there is no way to tell whether the two singers will be able to keep the title in the future.
