Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has declared a three-day state mourning in view of the death of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav. He also announced that the national flag will be flown at half-mast during this period. IN a condolence message, Adityanath said that Mulayam Singh was known as the ‘Pillar of Socialism’ and his demise is a big loss to the country. He added that the Samajwadi Party founder worked tirelessly for the development of Uttar Pradesh and always strived to safeguard the interests of its people.
Mulayam Singh Yadav, one of India’s most prominent politicians and the founder of the Samajwadi Party, has died at the age of 82. Yadav was a key figure in Indian politics for over four decades, serving as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh three times and as a member of parliament for five terms.

He was also defense minister in the government of former prime minister V. P. Singh. In recent years, Yadav had been increasingly marginalized within his own party, with his son Akhilesh Yadav taking over as its leader in 2012. Mulayam Singh Yadav was one of the most important politicians in India for many years. He served as chief minister three times and was a member of parliament for five terms. He was also defense minister under Prime Minister V.P. Singh. His son Akhilesh took over leadership of Mulayam’s party when he retired from active politics in 2012, but Mulayam remained an important voice until his death at age 82.
