145 Young Scientists Trained Abroad- In a written response to a question in Lok Sabha, Dr Singh highlighted various programmes and schemes that have been implemented to encourage research work and promote new and young scientists. Some of the key initiatives include the Department of Science and Technology (DST) -Young Scientists and Technologists scheme, the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB)- National Post-Doctoral Fellowship, and the SERB-Young Scientist Scheme.
Dr Singh also mentioned that the Department of Science and Technology has implemented various programmes for promoting S&T breakthrough in areas covering the emerging/futuristic technology areas, such as the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems and the National Super Computing Mission.
The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has also been promoting various R&D projects in both basic and applied research through its National Laboratories Scheme. CSIR is continuously striving for commercialization and deployment of knowledge base developed in its laboratories for the benefit of the masses.
Amongst distinct categories of R&D projects leading to the development of technologies and products, CSIR has been implementing Mission Mode Projects (MMPs), New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative (NMITLI) Program, Fast Track Translation (FTT) Projects, Fast Track Commercialization (FTC) Projects, Facility Creation Projects (FCP) and COVID-related Major Laboratory Projects (MLP) beside in-house projects of CSIR Labs.
The Minister emphasized the importance of promoting research and development in India and encouraging young scientists to explore the latest technologies and trends in their respective fields. These initiatives will not only benefit the individual scientists but also contribute to the growth and development of the country’s scientific and technological capabilities.
