UK PM Rishi Sunak gets criticism for trans community comment after one day in office: Rishi Sunak’s feedback on ladies and the transgender neighborhood in the run-up to the UK PM’s race is being scrutinised now. In one other interview with TalkTV in March, Sunak appeared to keep away from a direct reply when asked: “What is a woman?” Sunak merely goes on to say and repeat: “I think the Prime Minister (Boris Johnson) put it very well.
” I completely agree with him. ” Interestingly, in the one reference to the LGBT neighborhood, the 2019 manifesto reads: “We will vigorously combat harassment and violence against all religious groups, and against LGBT people.
As chancellor, Rishi Sunak had little to do with advancing – or rolling back – LGBTQ+ rights. But he made his position crystal clear during the last leadership race. An ally of Sunak’s claimed he would reverse “recent trends to erase women via the use of clumsy, gender-neutral language”.
Paradoxically, that “manifesto” for women’s rights would include a ban on trans women in sport. With Rishi Sunak as prime minister, it’s unclear whether he will push ahead with a conversion therapy ban or gender recognition reform. What is likely to be more pressing for many LGBTQ+ people is tackling the cost of living crisis. Only time will tell if Sunak will take meaningful action to better people’s lives.
