Shanghai COVID-19: The COVID-19 outbreak in China’s financial hub of Shanghai has grown to 38 locally transmitted cases, the city government said on Sunday, as authorities scrambled to contain the virus amid a resurgence in infections. Across the country of the new locally transmitted cases, 27 were found in three districts that were not previously affected by the outbreak.
The outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 in late 2019 and its spread throughout China has resulted in a public health crisis of unprecedented proportions. There have been over 83,000 confirmed cases and over 3,300 deaths attributed to the virus in China in 2020.
Currently, The vast majority of these cases have been concentrated in the city of Shanghai, which was become the epicenter of the outbreak. The Chinese government has responded to the new outbreak with a series of strict measures aimed at containing its spread.
These have included suspending all public transportation within Shanghai, imposing a lockdown on several neighborhoods within the city, and cancelling all large-scale events. In addition, schools and businesses have been closed across China in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.
Despite these measures, COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly throughout China. In response, the Chinese government has implemented even more stringent measures, including quarantining entire cities and towns and banning all travel into and out of affected areas. It remains to be seen whether these drastic measures will be successful in stopping the further spread of COVID-19.
