Rohit Sharma- On the third day of the fourth Test match against Australia, India captain Rohit Sharma became the sixth Indian cricketer to score 17,000 international runs. The historic feat was achieved during his innings of 35 runs in the first innings of the match.
Sharma was unbeaten on 17 runs at the end of day two at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He scored four more runs in the morning session of day three to complete 17,000 runs in international cricket.
The Indian batsman now joins the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the elite club of Indian cricketers with over 17,000 runs in international cricket.
Since his debut for India against Ireland in June 2007, Rohit Sharma has played a total of 48 Tests, 241 ODIs, and 148 T20I matches, scoring 3348 runs, 9782 runs, and 3853 runs, respectively.
Sharma is also the only cricketer in the world to have scored three double centuries in ODIs. He could have scored more runs in the first innings at Ahmedabad, but was caught out in the 21st over when he attempted an uppish backfoot punch off left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann.
India has already retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with victories in Nagpur and New Delhi. However, they need a win in Ahmedabad after their loss in Indore to secure a place in the World Test Championship final, which will be held at The Oval from June 7-11.
