Elon Musk Gives Twitter Employees Ultimatum: Tesla founder Elon Musk has given Twitter employees an ultimatum: Do ‘extremely hardcore’ work or face the consequences. Musk sent an email to Twitter employees at midnight, demanding that they put in the extra effort to help Twitter 2.0 become a success. There is no clear explanation for Musk’s actions, and it is unclear if this move is legal in all countries.
Musk gave Twitter employees until Thursday evening to answer his ultimatum: do they want to stay, or do they want to be let go? He told them to sign an online form pledging to work “extremely hardcore” hours and mesh with the company’s vision of “Twitter 2.0.” If the employees don’t sign the form by then, they will be given three months of severance pay.
In the tweets, Musk said the new Twitter would have more engineers and a focus on engineering. He also said that the company’s engineers would make up the majority of its staff. This change in emphasis would make Twitter more engineering-driven, and people who can write good code would make up a majority of the team.
The change isn’t the only change Musk made to Twitter. He also purged half of its employees, including engineers who publicly called out his new ownership. Those employees that remain were given an email with an online form that asked them to do ‘extremely hardcore’ work.
