Dwayne Johnson has been asked about a presidential race a lot lately, but he’s ruled it out. “I think the most important thing is that if we have a great president of the United States, who does a great job for this country and for its citizens, if we have somebody that is really doing an incredible job, that would be enough for me,” he shares.
Dwayne Johnson, also known by his ring name The Rock, is an American actor, producer, and semi-retired professional wrestler. Johnson was a college football player for the University of Miami, where he won a national championship on the 1991 Miami Hurricanes team. After being cut from the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL), he began training as a professional wrestler. He was signed by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1996 and gained mainstream fame after winning the WWF Championship in 1998. In 2000, he left the WWE to pursue an acting career.
Johnson’s first leading film role was in The Scorpion King in 2002. For this role, he was paid $5.5 million, a world record for an actor in his first starring role. He has since appeared in various films, such as The Rundown (2003), Be Cool (2005), Gridiron Gang (2006), Tooth Fairy (2010), Fast Five (2011), G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013), Pain & Gain (2013), Hercules (2014), and Central Intelligence (2016).
The presidential race is off the table for Dwayne Johnson, who says he’s not interested in running for office.
The actor and former professional wrestler told USA Today that he’s been asked about a potential presidential run “more than once” but that it’s not something he’s considering.
“I don’t think so,” Johnson said when asked if he would ever run for president. “I’m not gonna put my hat in the ring, so to speak.”
Johnson has been floated as a potential candidate for president in recent years, with some even dubbing him “The Rock 2020.” But it doesn’t seem like the 45-year-old is interested in pursuing a political career.
In the past, Johnson has said he would consider running for president if he felt like he could make a difference and help people. But it doesn’t seem like that’s something he’s currently considering.
So it looks like we won’t be seeing Dwayne Johnson on the campaign trail anytime soon.
Reasons for why Dwayne Johnson is no longer running for president
As much as we would have loved to see Dwayne Johnson run for president, it’s simply not in the cards right now. Here are a few reasons why:
- He’s busy! Dwayne Johnson is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood. Between filming movies, attending press junkets, and promoting his various businesses, he simply doesn’t have the time to mount a presidential campaign.
- He’s not a politician. Dwayne Johnson has no political experience whatsoever. While he may be a great actor and businessman, running for president is a whole different ball game.
- He’s not ready. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Dwayne Johnson said that he’s not quite ready to run for president. He wants to make sure that he’s fully prepared before making such a big commitment.
- He doesn’t want to put his family through the wringer. Running for president is a grueling process, and it would take away from time spent with his wife and two daughters. It’s simply not worth it for him at this point in his life.
- He has other priorities right now. In addition to spending time with his family, Dwayne Johnson is focused on working on new projects and expanding his philanthropic work through the Dwayne Johnson Foundation.
Dwayne Johnson has been one of the most popular actors in Hollywood for many years now, and his presidential aspirations have been well-documented. However, it seems that he has put those ambitions on hold for the time being, saying that a presidential race is “off the table.” He did not give a specific reason why he has decided to wait to run for office, but we can only assume that he feels he is not ready at this time. Only time will tell if Dwayne Johnson will ever make a bid for the presidency, but for now, we will just have to enjoy his movies.
