Congress Himachal MLAs To Meet Tomorrow To Decide Chief Minister: The Congress, which has been steadily fighting battles of attrition in the state, was able to secure a huge victory in Himachal Pradesh. They seized control of the state from the BJP and bested their main rival. A cautious Congress will be meeting with their MLAs at tomorrow’s meeting to decide on who will lead the state.
Early in the day, the party called all its MLAs to Chandigarh but later decided to move them away from the city after it won the election.
Manish Tiwari, who reports to Rajeev Shukla and heads the state’s BJP office, said: “The newly-elected MLAs will meet on Friday after election results are made official and decide the next legislature’s leadership.”
“The party is sending two observers — Chattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and senior leader Bhupinder Hooda — with me. We will be travelling to Shimla tomorrow to meet the MLAs who have been called over,” Shukla said.
Before the election, Himachal Pradesh was oscillating between voting for the BJP and Congress in five-year intervals.
The BJP scored a landslide victory in Gujarat, but lagged behind the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Jairam Thakur conceded defeat for the BJP.
Tomorrow, the Himachal Pradesh MLAs will hold a meeting to decide on their Chief Minister.
The Congress party on the verge of losing its majority, had a major win in Himachal Pradesh. The party won the state, surpassing its principal rival, the BJP. A cautious Congress has called a meeting of its MLAs tomorrow to decide on the Chief Minister question.
The party’s initial plan had been to call their MLAs to Chandigarh, but that was changed after they got a majority of seats in the polls.
News agency PTI reports that Congress MLAs from Himachal Pradesh, who were newly elected, will meet on Friday to select their new leader. Rajeev Shukla, in-charge of the state, said this decision will be made following their post-election conference in Shimla.
“The party is sending two observers — Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and senior leader Bhupinder Hooda—along with me.” Mr Shukla said. “We will be travelling to Shimla tomorrow where all the party MLAs have been called.”
Himachal Pradesh has consistently “paired up” by alternating between the BJP and Congress every five years.
The Congress party won 40 seats in the 68 seat state. The BJP only managed to get 25 seats, which was a landslide victory in Gujarat. However, it was not as good as the Congress, who is currently leading with 40 seats. They have already conceded defeat.
Many of the Congress party leaders have credited Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s campaign in the hill state for the good performance in the assembly elections.
Priyanka Gandhi led the party’s charge in Himachal Pradesh with several rallies and was also heavily involved in strategy planning for the election.
