Rahul Gandhi made his remarks well before the election results were announced, so he was clearly trying to influence voters’ minds.
Mr. Ramesh has criticized erroneous media reporting over Mr. Gandhi’s comment that he had referred to Mr. Kharge as the new party president even before the results were declared. He said that the direction of voting was quite clearly indicated when Mr. Gandhi made the statement at the news conference.
“I don’t know yet.”
Rahul Gandhi, leader of the Congress Party, made his remarks during a press conference held today (April 18) at 11 am local time (1.30 am IST). He spoke after results from the state elections had been announced. The results were declared at 2.30 am.
“I can’t say much about the Congress leader’s role, because that’s for him to say,” Rahul Gandhi told reporters on Saturday after his meeting with former prime minister Manmohan Singh. “As far as my role is concern, I am very clear. The Congress chief will determine what my role is and what I should be doing. That’s something only he knows. So, I will leave it to him (Kharge) to tell me what my role is,” he said. “The Congress leadership is not a democracy. The Congress leadership is an autocracy,” he asserted.
Congress party presidential candidate: Mallikarjun Khaire won by a margin of 2,895.
Even though he has been a staunch supporter of Sonia Gandhi since her days as Prime Minister, Mr Kharge had not been considered a front runner for the top post. But after the results came out on Sunday night, he emerged as the clear favourite.
The Election Commission has ordered an inquiry into allegations of vote rigging by BJP candidate B L Santhosh Kumar in the Lok Sabha polls. The Opposition party has accused the ruling alliance of trying to rig the results. It says there was a huge discrepancy between the number of voters who cast their ballots in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the number of seats won by its candidates.
After months of speculation, former Union Minister Mallikarjun Khare finally won the Lok Sabha elections from Karnataka’s Gulbarga constituency. He defeated his nearest rival by a margin of nearly 3 lakh votes.
