Airport Security Exemption List: Airports across the country are implementing stricter screening measures to protect travelers from terrorist attacks. One of these measures involves requiring passengers to remove all liquids and gels from carry-on bags before passing through airport security checkpoints. However, some travelers may be exempt from this requirement based on certain criteria.
Airport Security Exemption List
1. Food
You can bring food items like nuts, candy, gum, and baked goods into the airport. Liquids and gels must be packed separately from solid foods.
2. Medicine
Bring prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements, and herbal remedies into the airport. Bring only the amount needed for travel purposes. Do not pack extra medication in case of emergency.
If you are traveling with children or elderly family members, be sure to bring a supply of their usual medicine. If they have special needs, such as diabetes, asthma, etc., be sure to carry an adequate supply of that type of medication. Do not take any medication without first consulting your doctor. Be aware of what is allowed on airplanes. Some medications can cause problems
3. Alcoholic Beverages
Alcoholic beverages are allowed in checked baggage but not in carry-on luggage.
4. Prescription Drugs
Prescription drugs are allowed in carry-on luggage provided they are properly labeled and stored in original containers.
The TSA has a list of medications that can be carried on board an aircraft, but it is not exhaustive. The agency says that if you have any questions about whether your medication will be permitted to travel with you, contact the airline or airport before boarding.
5. Cosmetics
Cosmetics are allowed in carry-ons. However, they must be packed in a sealed container and placed in the checked baggage compartment of your airline ticket. You may also bring cosmetics on board as part of your personal effects.
You can take up to 100 ml (3 fl oz) of liquid or gel-based cosmetics with you on board. The amount is limited by weight. For example, if you have more than 50 ml (1.5 fl oz) of a product in your hand luggage, it must be packed separately from other liquids and gels.
If you are taking a cosmetic that contains alcohol as an ingredient, the maximum allowed volume is 10ml per person.
6. Medical Supplies
Medical supplies are allowed in carry-ones.
The following items are not permitted:
Alcoholic beverages, food and drink containers, or any other item that may pose a safety hazard to the aircraft;
Any item that is prohibited by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations;
Firearms of any kind;
Laser pointers;
Nail clippers;
Scissors;
7. Baby Formula
Baby formula is allowed in carry-on bags. It must be packed in a clear, plastic bag and labeled with the name of the product and its contents. The label should also include the date it was prepared. If you are traveling internationally, you may need to check your baby’s formula for customs purposes.
8. Contact Lenses
Contact lenses are allowed in carry-one bags. Please check with your airline for restrictions on the size of carry-on luggage and what types of items may be carried.
9. Electronic Devices
Electronic devices are allowed in carry-in bags. They must be packed in a hard case and placed in the overhead bin.
10. Pets
Pets are allowed in carry-oned only if they are small enough to fit under the seat in front of you. Check with your airline regarding pet restrictions.
11. Food
Food is allowed in carry-ons, but it must be packaged in a clear, resealable plastic bag. Packages containing meat, poultry, fish, shellfish, eggs, dairy products, or fruit juices must be wrapped individually.
12. Bags
Bags larger than 12 inches x 6 inches x 4 inches are not allowed in carry-on baggage.
13. Firearms
Federal law prohibits carrying firearms aboard commercial flights within the United States. This includes passengers who are licensed to carry concealed weapons.
14. Tobacco Products
Tobacco products are not allowed in carry on bags.
