T20 World Cup: Rohit Sharma led India lost their first match of the T20 World Cup against South Africa on Sunday. They were beaten by five runs in a low-score game.
David Miller (59) and Aiden Markram (52) struck undefeated centuries to help South Africa chase down a 134-run total against India in the third one-day international at Perth Stadium on Friday.
After the loss, Australia slid to the second spot in Group B with New Zealand taking the pole position with five wins from six games. Their NRR is now at +3.853.
On the one hand, India have won their last two matches by an aggregate score of 13 runs. They’ve lost just once in the past nine months against Australia (at home). Their NRR is +1.742. On the other hand, they’ve been beaten at home for the first time since November 2017. Their win percentage is 41
Bangladesh are ranked third in the world with as many points as India but their NRR (0.933) is relatively weaker than India’s.
Zimbabwe are ranked 4th in the world with an NRR of 0.05.Pakistan are ranked 5th in the world with a NRR of 0.76.Netherlands are ranked last in the world with an NRR of -1.94.
With three wins from four, India could be through if they beat Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. But a defeat in either game would mean that India need to rely on the result of other matches in Group B.
If India lose both their matches, they will be eliminated from the tournament.
