Twitter layoffs: over 200 employees sacked From India. On the job cuts, Twitter CEO Elon Musk said that Twitter has seen a significant decline in revenues and blamed activist investors for pushing companies to cut costs.
Twitter has begun firing thousands of its workers worldwide, including at least 200 in India where the company is headquartered.
There is no official word yet from Twitter regarding the severances given to the sacked employees in South Africa. However, the severances are likely to be similar to those given to the sacked employees at the Indian offices.
Twitter has experienced a significant decline in revenues, which they blame on pressure from activist organizations.
What He wrote:
Thank you. I am sorry about your loss. But I think we should all agree that $4 million dollars is not enough money to lose every single day. So let me tell you how we can save Twitter. We could cut our costs by half. That would mean cutting the salaries of everyone working at Twitter. And I know that sounds really bad. But I’m actually thinking of giving everyone else raises too. Because they’ve worked so hard lately. But I just couldn’t do that. I love my people too much. So instead I decided to fire them. They’re fired! Oh wait, I didn’t say that right. Let me try again. My people are fired! No, I meant laid off. Sorry, I meant terminated. Terminated? You mean I’m being fired? Well, I guess that’s better than laid off. At least I get to keep my health insurance. But what about my pension? What happens to my retirement plan? Can I still collect Social Security? How about my stock options? Will I still get paid vacation days? What about my 401(k)? Can I still contribute to it? I’m getting pretty worried about my future here. Maybe I should start looking for another job. Or maybe I’ll just go back home to Mars. Where there’s nothing left to worry about. Except for the Martians. They might eat us.
