The Satellite MoES Will Take Over Operations: The Ministry of Environment and Science has been the major operational user of India’s newly launched Oceansat-3 satellite, Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said on Saturday. Oceansat-3, India’s newest satellite, was launched last year from Sriharikota.
The technology will be used to collect data about water temperatures, meteorology, cyclones and fisheries. “The MoES institutions would be the major operational users of Oceansat-3,” Singh says. “The data from the satellite will help in weather forecasting, cyclone warning and marine fisheries.”
It is equipped with a state-of-the-art Ocean Colour Monitor (OCM) to provide near real-time ocean color data products for global ocean applications, Singh said. The MoES institutions will use the data from Oceansat-3 for various applications such as monitoring of coastal zones, assessment of pollution, study of marine biodiversity, and forecasting of fisheries potential.
