Five suspects detained under UAPA in the Coimbatore car blast case were on the NIA's radar in 2019

Five men arrested in connection with the Coimbatore car explosion case have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Some of the accused were questioned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2019. An LPG cylinder blast that rocked the city on Sunday killed one person, Jameza Mubeen.

CCTV footage from around the scene of the crime was also being collected and examined. A car explosion due to an LPG cylinder blast rocked Coimbatore on Sunday. Jameza Mubeen, the man who was driving the car, died in the incident, and he died trying to avoid a checkpoint. Officials are not yet sure about what his target was. Three of the five men who were arrested were caught on the CCTV camera outside the victim’s house carrying cylinders and plastic drums.

The Tamil Nadu Police has arrested five people in connection with the Coimbatore cylinder blast. 25 more people are under radar and will be questioned, top intelligence sources said. The place where the blast took place is highly sensitive and was the centre of action in the 1996 blasts leading to the death of 56 people.
